Thomas Moore
When Bobbie Rowland recorded her story “Barry the Bean Bag” in 1981, it was Thomas Moore who gave voice to Barry, “the biggest bean bag ever seen” who magically learned to roll, move, talk, sing and recite poetry. Like Barry, early childhood educator Dr. Thomas Moore has been engaging and encouraging young children and their
teachers ever since.
Moore earned a Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music, Master of Education and Ph.D. in Elementary Education with specialization in Early Childhood from Indiana State University. Teaching posts in early childhood education at Southern Mississippi, Georgia Southern, Benedict College, Clinton College. He served as Director of the NC Head Start State Collaboration Office. A long career as a keynote speaker wherever early childhood educators gathered. Dozens of publications, articles, CDs, a DVD. Honors include Indiana State University’s Distinguished Alumni and North Carolina’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine. His most prized honor? The “Angel Among Us” Award presented by a K-2nd grade class in Laurinburg, NC.
With his deep Barry-tone voice, unique understanding of child development and time in classrooms across the globe, Dr. Moore whole-heartedly appreciates the Foundation’s work, and the need for it.
