In Memoriam
On behalf of The B. H. Rowland Foundation Board of Directors, it is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of our organization’s namesake, Dr. Bobbie Haynes Rowland. At the age of 96 Bobbie was still the brightest light in the room. She was quick and witty, always able to make you laugh until you wanted to cry. She was born to encourage, empower, and press on. She always saw the best in others and was able to tease out your greatest skills and use them to propel you forward. Bobbie moved throughout her professional career with a level of unabated selflessness yet was self-admittedly selfish in one area – her unwavering commitment to what is best for young children. Her efforts and advocacy on behalf of young children warranted her uncompromising stance when it came to optimal learning and developmental experiences. She made no concessions when it came to what children deserve and unapologetically expected the same from everyone who worked with or on behalf of young children.
There is no doubt that Bobbie taught and mentored thousands of early childhood professionals. Although the depth and breadth of her impact could never truly be captured, we can all find comfort in knowing that her legacy is secured through us – the circle of influence thoughtfully tailored by one amazing woman will live on for generations to come.
In the mindful words of Dr. Thomas Moore (lifelong friend of Bobbie and BHRF board member) - to honor her, let us “Stand for them.”
Pressing on and in her honor,
Dr. Amanda Vestal (Co-Founder/Board President)
