Sharon Spigner
Sharon Spigner holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State
University, Master of Education in Early Childhood and Preschool Add-on, Birth-Kindergarten and
Curriculum & Supervision licensures from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Sharon served the state of SC and NC for 35 years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher (15 years), a literacy
facilitator, Pre-K Specialist for the More at Four Pre-K Program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and
the NC Pre-K Program Policy and Education Consultant for the Department of Public Instruction and the
Division of Child Development and Early Education. Sharon was responsible for planning, organizing and
facilitating professional development for the NC Pre-K Program statewide, mentoring and providing
technical assistance for mentors and evaluators who served teachers in the EESLPD Unit and managed
the McREL Online System for the NC Teacher Evaluation Process. Currently, she is employed with Smart
Start of Mecklenburg County as the Assurance and Compliance Director for the MECK Pre-K program.
Awards include: Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, semifinalist for the 1997 Harris Teacher of the Year,
National Board Certified Teacher for Early Childhood/Generalist, mentor licensure and The Order of the
Long Leaf Pine by the Office of the Governor. She has volunteered time to support early childhood and
church community: NC state committees, NAEYC validator, trainer and coach for early childhood
professionals, secretary and Sabbath school teacher for church and other community outreach
initiatives.
Sharon worked in collaboration with Dr. Bobbie Rowland as a trainer for the NC Teacher Evaluation
process for NC Pre-K teachers and their site administrators.
She loves to travel, ride boats, garden, create bible activities and facilitate bible and educational
discussions for adults and youth read.
